Chromium boride (CrB2) is a metal boride that offers superior performance when used as a coating in corrosive-wear environments. The high-hardness, corrosion-resistant chromium diboride coating is most often deposited by the sputtering of hot-pressed or sintered ceramic targets. In addition to a coating/hardening agent, CrB2 is also used as a welding flux and in self-propagating synthesis reactions.
